from simply enjoying life.

Joseph Okaly:

Hello and welcome to the Enjoy More 30s Family

Joseph Okaly:

Finance podcast and our series right now, which is The

Joseph Okaly:

Financial Parables of Your Life. So each week I'm sharing what

Joseph Okaly:

likely will be a story you may have heard of already before,

Joseph Okaly:

but maybe with a little bit of a twist. Because stories are

Joseph Okaly:

easier to remember both in transferring generational tales

Joseph Okaly:

from one to the next and also finances as well really

Joseph Okaly:

anything. So let's use stories to help us remember those

Joseph Okaly:

financial items to keep them more front of mind and make our

Joseph Okaly:

life a little bit more enjoyable in the process. As always,

Joseph Okaly:

before I begin, please share please like please leave

Joseph Okaly:

reviews. I'd love to reach and help as many young families out

Joseph Okaly:

there as I can that are probably just like you.

Joseph Okaly:

So today please join me for our story, The Ant and the

Joseph Okaly:

Grasshopper...and the Other Grasshopper. One bright day in

Joseph Okaly:

late autumn, a family of ants are bustling about in the warm

Joseph Okaly:

sunshine, drying out the grain they had stored up during the

Joseph Okaly:

summer when a starving grasshopper, his fiddle under

Joseph Okaly:

his arm, came up and humbly begged for a bite to eat.

Joseph Okaly:

"What," cried the ants in surprise, "haven't you stored

Joseph Okaly:

anything away for the winter? What in the world were you doing

Joseph Okaly:

all last summer?" "I didn't have time to store up any food,"

Joseph Okaly:

whined the grasshopper. "I was so busy making music that before

Joseph Okaly:

I knew it, the summer was gone." The ants shrugged their

Joseph Okaly:

shoulders in disgust. "Making music were you," they cried,

Joseph Okaly:

"very well now dance!" And they turned their backs on the

Joseph Okaly:

grasshopper and went on with their work. Not long after

Joseph Okaly:

another grasshopper came strolling by. The ants looked up

Joseph Okaly:

and said, "Ah, another dancing grasshopper to beg for a bite of

Joseph Okaly:

food!" "Who me?" said the other grasshopper. "Oh no, I am quite

Joseph Okaly:

alright. Every morning before I start to play, I put away a few

Joseph Okaly:

pieces of food. Don't you ants ever have any fun?"

Joseph Okaly:

So there is a balance between working hard and having fun. The

Joseph Okaly:

traditional fable promotes working hard but did you know

Joseph Okaly:

that most ants die within a few weeks to a few years? What a

Joseph Okaly:

waste! You know the ant who lives the longest? The Queen ant

Joseph Okaly:

and she doesn't go out for even one piece of food. Now that is

Joseph Okaly:

an ant who's both very entrepreneurial and also

Joseph Okaly:

understands compound interest. When you're young, saving early

Joseph Okaly:

is like putting away a few pieces of food every day in

Joseph Okaly:

early spring for the other grasshopper. It really isn't too

Joseph Okaly:

much trouble. It's not too inconvenient. And there is

Joseph Okaly:

plenty in the way of time and resources for playing. If you

Joseph Okaly:

don't have a plan until you're in your 50s or 60s or whatever

Joseph Okaly:

it may be, you may very well be in the position of the first

Joseph Okaly:

Thanks for tuning in today and join us for next week's story,

Joseph Okaly:

grasshopper or the ants. Your choices now are down to work all

Joseph Okaly:

The Remix of the Turtle and the Hare. I hope you enjoyed today's

Joseph Okaly:

day or have your goals you know starve out. If you have a

Joseph Okaly:

story. Please remember to review. Please remember to share

Joseph Okaly:

savings plan put together for you when you're young, you might

Joseph Okaly:

and if you need any help, don't hesitate in reaching out. I

Joseph Okaly:

probably have helped someone just like you. Until next week.

Joseph Okaly:

be very pleasantly surprised what it projects to turn into.

Joseph Okaly:

Thanks for joining me today and I look forward to connecting

Joseph Okaly:

with you again soon.
